Contract negotiations: It is fun to tell them “no thanks”!

Last week NescasterHottie got a frantic call from AckwardLittleman as he was leaving work for the day. AckwardLittleman wanted to make sure NewscasterHottie knew his contract was ending in 59 days and that they were ready to present him with another contract offer.

Back in March 2008 they offered him this insulting contract that stipulated he would continue to manage at LittleDawgNews in addition to reporting for BigDawgNews (which is practically impossible as it is). He would continue working 50 hours a week, 100 hours a pay period all for a 1% raise.

That means we would be able to continue renting a home in a town we have lived in for 5 years, we would not be able to buy a home- still… Having kids would still be financially unattainable for us. We would continue only having about $400 a month left for food, gas, clothes and other non-essential expenses.

For us this simply was not acceptable. He works in a high paying industry, he has lots of valuable experience and we are planning to start a family and have a home by the time we are in our thirties.

So we rejected the crappy contract offer in March and decided we would take the next 5 months to find something better somewhere else. We have received offers from Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Illinois and a few other places I forgot about.

We are very pleased with a particular offer we received and are prepared to pick up and move out there. When we got word last week from AckwardLittleman that they wanted to present us with another offer we were amused to see what they would offer.

We both figured it wouldn’t be better than the offer we just received from out of state but seeing it through was the best thing… so we said we would be willing to look over the offer and consider it.

Turns out the “new offer” is exactly the same offer they presented us back in March. They are not prepared to give him anymore money or less responsibility, they still think he wont find a better offer elsewhere and they are oh so wrong.

On Wednesday NewscasterHottie gets to tell them “no thanks, I have better offers on the table”… Ha! Thanks for the opportunities and for taking advantage of us for 5 years! It has been painfully irritating and it almost broke our spirits but now we can move on to something better and you can suck it! Have fun without us bitches!

It is an enjoyable thing to do after years and years of being jerked around by the company. He finally did it, he got better opportunities and can now leave all the not so good stuff behind. Woho!

  1. One freaking percent?????? That’s not even enough for cost of living increases. Heck, people working at Target and WalMart get bigger increases than that for stalking shelves part-time.

I recommend Oregon and Washington, both beautiful states.

  2. That would be STOCKING shelves. Although I’m sure they feel like it’s stalking a lot of the time. :P

  3. I don’t think 1% would cover the ink it would take to sign the contract. I am so glad he found something else. It’s going to feel sooooo good to tell them to shove it. See if he can secretly record it on his camera phone and post it here for us to see!

  5. Sometimes it amazes me how some that work for/manage places can NOT see what everyone else offers. They also do not realize what assets some of their employees are and the cost of rplacing them. That doesn’t even include the loss of viewers etc.

I have never understood that line of thinking -
