Hey Entrecard user, Don’t drop and run!!

Hey Entrecard droppers… dropping and running is BAD for business you know (if you run a worthwhile blog)!

Sure when you just visit a blog, drop your card and leave you’ll be earning EC credits and the blog owner could possibly return your drop but ultimately this does nothing for the blog owner because you AREN’T reading the blog.

Are you a power dropper on Entrecard? Do you know what your bounce rate is for your blog? I would be interested to see screenshots of your bounce rate, post those in the comments guys!

High bounce rates aren’t good you know. You can have all the hits you want but if your bounce rate is high those hits are pointless folks! It means people are coming to you site and finding themselves uninterested in sticking around.

It’s like stuffing irrelevant keywords such as sex and naked in your posts just to get lots of viewers huh RhodesTer? He just wrote a post you should read about Sex Engine Orgasm that describes how using the word sex can bring you lots of high bounce rate visitors.

My point is dropping and running is great for bloggers who RARELY post new content on their blog but what about the rest of us who actually make an effort to post frequently? We write posts to contribute something and it would be nice if people at least skimmed the post before running on to the the next site.

You know that is why so many people stick their Entrecard drop widgets so far down on their page, it keeps people on the blog longer…

Oh, and what is the point of being a power dropper if you never update your blog? Got thoughts or tips for an Entrecard user who want READERS and COMMENTERS?

  2. My bounce rate is crap (88 percent or something with the average time on my site being 1:45 seconds, and I’m surprised that anyone would stick around that long to read my ramblings! ;) But seriously, it is annoying, but I’m no power dropper…I just generally drop on all my faves and the rest of the people who drop on me.

  3. Listen, I agree..we shouldn’t drop and run. When dropping on new sites, I look at the last few blog entrees. I try to comment if applicable. I actually found YOU on blog catalog! Have a great Monday!

  5. I will say I am a drop and runner LOL HOWEVER the blogs that I drop on 99% of them are in my reader (like you LOL) so that is how I do my reading of the blogs I drop on so I think it is okay to drop and run IF you are subscribed to someone. But those that I dont’ subscribe to I do stay and read.

  6. This is how I’m so NOT a power dropper. I don’t even know what the heck a bounce rate is. Good thing I already liked to read. :)

  7. What amazes me about some of the blogs I visit is that there is just no “content.” There are some blogs that have written their first entry, and then join entrecard. I think its wonderful when someone is thinking ahead and building their blog’s readership from the beginning, but I am talking about blogs who just have a Hello World post from three weeks ago and they have done nothing else. It doesn’t entice me to come back.

There is a list of blogs that I love reading. They range from personal blogs to very business like industry blogs. I don’t comment every single time I read them, I will admit, but nobody does every time. I would have no time for anything else.

I think the other aspect of dropping is that you are dropping in hopes that the other person will come look at your site too, like dropping your business card on their door. “hey, i knocked on your door, but you weren’t home.” So when I drop my card, I am just saying that I couldn’t chat, but here’s a casserole on your doorstep to say that I care. Well, but i really wouldn’t leave that because you’d get ants.

  8. Ok ya got me. I am an inveterate drop and runner, however I do read quite a lot too. and to echo what TheSnackHound said, there are a lot of blogs out there who update very rarely, so I don’t mind dropping and running if nothing has changed.
I look at a lot of blogs daily, I try to return all of my drops, and catch as many random sites as possible.
Now I am trying to leave more comments, and Digg, Stumble etc as well.
It takes awhile to figure out all of this.
