Life is a changing, thank goodness!

NewscasterHottie has been with LittleDawgNews for about five years. He started out making $24,000 and has eventually worked his way up to a yearly salary of $42,000. Problem is that the median household income here is $40,000. Oh, he is the highest paid “talent” at the station too!

Yep a full time news anchor makes only $2000 more than the average family in this town, no celebrity treatment here folks! Oh and houses cost about $250,000 here so nobody can afford to buy a home in this town, not even the staff of the news station.

In march NewscasterHottie was offered a new contract, it was a “promotion” because he would be employed by BigDawgNews as a reporter instead of continuing as LittleDawgNews’ main anchor man. He was offered a .50¢ raise per check for this “promotion” after taxes and benefit deductions and they wanted him to commit to another year and a half of employment.

Lets see we get an extra .50¢ per check to stay another year and a half, how generous! In all seriousness the offer was insulting and would ensure we continued renting a home in a town we wouldn’t be able to afford living in- still.

We passed on the offer and were told “this is as good as the offer is going to get, EVER”… They also forced him to do the job anyway, for no extra pay- but only for the remainder of his contract. That means the job search needs to kick into high gear, fast!

After several months of submitting resume tapes and applying for jobs NewscasterHottie is headed to the Midwest for a job interview, a major one! I am his wardrobe coordinator and makeup specialist (yes men on the news wear makeup, they have to).

So I have much dress shirt ironing and starching to do plus I am headed on a trip of my own tomorrow. I have to help him get his junk together and ready to fly out today then I prepare myself for my own trip departure! So I am writing this a day before it will actually post. I’ll need all my available brain power to focus on the insanity that is life! So, cross your fingers for us!

    Now I may have missed this..but are you working also? Do you have to “up and leave” if he gets the transfer..

    If you move to my little midwest city you can find a house for under $250,000 :-)

    Oh how I feel your pain.

    My husband was in radio. Manger and pulling the breakfast shift. He had a breakdown from all the stress and expectations (eg when 9/11 happened he was at the station for 3 days straight).

    So a career change. Now he is earning THE SAME MONEY as a pleb in IT and working half the hours.

    People just don’t realise that only a precious few get the big bucks in media.
